Spotify overlay for OBS

Show what is playing on Spotify in your stream with a now playing widget. You bring your own Spotify app — GetPingd never sees anyone else's credentials.

1. Create your Spotify app

  1. Open the Spotify developer dashboard.
  2. Create an app (any name works, description e.g. Now playing overlay for my stream).

  3. In the app settings, add this Redirect URI exactly, then click Add and Save (https only, trailing slash matters):

    https://getpingd.xyz/auth/spotify-overlay/callback

  4. Tick only Web API (leave Web Playback SDK, Android, iOS and Ads API unticked) and accept the developer terms.

Developer mode limits

Spotify Developer Mode applies to the app owner: an active Premium subscription may be required, and user management caps who can use the app. Spotify's current rules apply — check them if login fails.

2. Connect Spotify

  1. In the GetPingd dashboard go to Overlays → Connect.
  2. Paste your Client ID and Client Secret (app → Settings) and press Save and connect Spotify.
  3. Click Allow on the Spotify consent screen.

Your secret is stored encrypted on the server and never sent back to the browser.

3. Add it to OBS

  1. Go to the Edit tab and press Copy URL (use Copy demo URL to arrange the layout without music playing).
  2. In OBS add a Browser source with that URL.
  3. Set the source size to match your widget size: 800 × 600 at 100%, 600 × 450 at 75%, 1000 × 750 at 125%.
  4. Theme changes apply to the same URL instantly — no need to copy it again. Keep the URL private: anyone with it can see what you listen to. If it leaks, use Regenerate URL.

Options

  • Design — Console, Ticker or Poster.
  • Cover — Square keeps the artwork as Spotify sends it. Vinyl spins the cover while music plays. Canvas is reserved for the future: Spotify offers no Canvas videos through its official API.
  • Smart cover glow — tints a glow around the cover with a colour derived from the artwork on the server.
  • Cover blur — blurred artwork as the card background (Console and Poster only).
  • Content — progress bar, times and artist line.
  • Visibility — hide on pause (with delay) or show only briefly on song change.
  • Animations — vinyl rotation, marquee, equalizer and show motion.

Troubleshooting

  • INVALID_CLIENT: Invalid redirect URI — the Redirect URI in your Spotify app does not match exactly. Delete it, paste it again from the dashboard's Copy button, click Add, then Save.
  • User not registered or 403 — open your Spotify app → User management and add your Spotify name and email.
  • Nothing updates — check the connection status on the Connect tab and reconnect if the session expired.
